Case Study · Web Presence

We rebuilt our own homepage to stop the scroll.

MDI LABS sells "sites that look fine but don't convert" fixes. But our own homepage was the punchline: a flat, dark, generic agency page that looked like every other dev shop. We told clients to care about first impressions — while our own first impression was average.

The Before

The assignment: rebuild mdi.io into something that makes people stop scrolling, in under two weeks, with a small stack.

BeforeAfter
Flat dark homepage, no motion languageFable-grade editorial design: paper/ink, serif accents, film grain
Static heroAurora orbs, masked line reveals, scroll-driven manifesto
No demos to prove the work4 rebuilt-from-scratch animated demos (AURYN, AURYN NOIR, VANTA, TRESTLE)
Nav inconsistent across pagesOne shared chrome system: 42 pages, pixel-identical nav + Instagram
Broken links (privacy/terms 404'd)Legal pages created, all links verified 200
No motion offeringNew ComfyUI motion page with live canvas demo

What We Did

  • Editorial design language — paper/ink texture, serif accent headlines, film grain, warm charcoal/champagne palette instead of matrix-green "hacker" tropes
  • Motion as proof — every rebuilt demo brand has a signature "screenshot this" moment that makes the motion itself the sales pitch
  • Shared chrome — one nav + footer + Instagram system injected across all 42 pages so the whole site speaks one language
  • Calm premium motion — reveals that never hide content; no opacity-0 content gates waiting on JavaScript
  • Legal cleanup — privacy/terms pages that were 404ing now resolve; all internal links verified

The Stack

  • Static HTML + CSS + GSAP — no heavy framework, ~33KB homepage
  • Lenis smooth scroll — touch-guarded so mobile never janks
  • Canvas particle systems — for the four demo brands
  • Shared chrome system — so the whole site stays consistent as it grows

The Result

  • Homepage ships ~33KB — fast, even on mobile
  • 4 new demo brands, each with a signature "screenshot this" moment
  • Every page on the site now matches the homepage language
  • ComfyUI motion is now a sellable tier ($395 / $895 / $1,495)
